School Improvement Plan Priorities 2019-2020

We are constantly striving to improve our practice and above all the outcomes for our children. This year we have identified the following main focus areas:

Key Focus 1

  • Continue to provide a creative curriculum, personal to the needs of our learners, that incorporates big ideas, topical events, varied and engaging activities and a sense of continuity as a way to stimulate our children, teachers, and families while affording our children the best opportunities possible.
  • Ensure clear progression of skills throughout whole school in all subjects, including foundation subjects, using national curriculum progression documents.
  • Empower our learners through aspiration and career weeks linked to our knowledge of the wider world and the opportunities available.

Key Focus 2

  • To improve levels of receptive and expressive language in both Key Stages, ensuring that the language gap between our most vulnerable learners and highest achievers is closed.
  • To raise the profile of reading across all key stages by implementing whole class guided reading sessions, reading focus days and reading newsletters for parents, ensuring that all learners are taught the skills required to be a good reader.
  • To maintain high quality teaching of reading, writing and SPaG, ensuring all children are making progress that is in line with or above national data with an emphasis on the achievement of KS2 boys.

Key Focus 3

  • To ensure all learners are making expected progress in maths between KS1 and KS2, with a rigorous focus on KS2
  • Improve mental calculation, number bonds and recall of key number facts in EYFS and KS1.
  • To ensure that attainment in Maths across all key stages is in line with or above national with an emphasis on the achievement of KS2 boys.
  • To continue to ensure the school is prepared for the imminent multiplication check in Year 4

Key Focus 4

  • To ensure clear progression of skills across all Key Stages.
  • To ensure that the children are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
  • To ensure assessment in Science follows assessment in English and Maths, ensuring that previous scientific skills are built upon.
  • To promote STEM study and science career paths through aspirations and career weeks, especially the role of women working in STEM careers

We also maintain permanent strands to our SIP for Safeguarding and Promotion of British Values:

 British Values

Ensure everyone in school is promoting British Values determined as:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty

Mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith

Safeguarding and E-safety

  • Ensuring that all Safeguarding and Child Protection duties are undertaken rigorously including staff training and development
  • Work towards the accreditation of ‘360 degree safe’ for  E-safety
  • Development of ELSA room to provide a welcoming, relaxing and comfortable are where children feel safe to share their worries and concerns.
  • Ensure staff are trained in ‘contextual safeguarding’
  • Ensure children are aware of their role to safeguard themselves and each other through the use of ELIM ‘active bytes.’

Ensure everyone in school is adhering to the new GDPR rules and expectations through:

  • Staff training to ensure they are up to date about the changes in the law
  • Lockable cupboards in all classes and Head Teacher’s Office
  • Update parent ‘umbrella’ consent form in accordance with new GDPR regulations.
