Welcome To Our School

Welcome to Meare Village Primary School Website.  We hope that you will find all the information you need about our happy and successful school.  We also hope that you will enjoy sharing and celebrating the range of activities on offer to the children.

We approach learning in a way that will inspire our children whilst ensuring they rise to the challenge of our high expectations in terms of academic achievement, behaviour and dispositions.

We provide a rich varied curriculum linked to real life relevant events.  We explore ideas within a local context, wherever possible but also seek to ensure our children are informed about the wealth of opportunities the world offers them.  We are constantly offering our children wider experience and always asking people to come and talk to the children about their lives and experiences, jobs, lifestyles, talents and beliefs.  We encourage our children to take responsibility for themselves, their peers and their planet.  We aim to nurture innovation and independence.

Our partnerships include those with the local RSPB nature reserve, Mudindi School in Kenya and The Primary School Attached to Hunan College for Nationalities’ in China.   We work closely with our local secondary schools and the other rural primary schools in the area.  We also maximise sponsorship and support opportunities through local businesses in order to support our varied work.
Film making, Drama and Music feature prominently within school and are woven within all elements of the curriculum.  All our productions feature film, song and live action and are extravagant, ambitious and hugely enjoyed by the children.

Key members of the school community are trained in 'Forest School' education and each class enjoys Muddy Monday every fourth week.  During these sessions, all areas of the curriculum are explored through the outdoor environment.  We have a dedicated Forest School area with a fire circle on site and a poly- tunnel where the children plant, water, harvest and sell their own fruit, vegetables and plants.
Each half term we have a ‘Mystery Monday’.  On these days, a mystery object is placed in our class boxes and the children direct how and what they would like to learn about it for the whole day.   Even the teacher doesn’t know what the object might be!

Our aim is to equip them with both the academic capability for economic success and the social and emotional skills for happy lives.  We also want them to enjoy being children!
