This term in science Pegasus class have been thinking about the basic needs of humans. This week we focussed on healthy eating and the impact this has on our behaviour, concentration and energy levels. During guided reading we learnt about the 5 main food groups and then in our science lesson we sorted some food into each group. We learnt that each food group is important in some way and to be healthy we need to eat food from each group to create a balanced diet. We also had a long discussion on precooked and processed food. We learnt that processing food can be very beneficial (e.g. freezing and baking) but that some foods may have elevated salt, sugar and fat levels because of processing and therefore can make many of these foods unhealthy. We showed our learning by creating some balanced healthy meal ideas.
