On Friday 10th November we came together to mark the sacrifice of so many with a special assembly attended by parents and guests from the local residential home. We also wrote poems, inspired by Joseph Coelho, children’s poet laureate.
Soldiers
The soldier is a beacon lighting up the fight
The racket of machine gun fire fades into the night
The whistle of bombs is forever gone
The loss of many a soul turns the skies as black as charcoal
As the gunfire fills the air the soldiers fall.
Fall
Fall
As explosions sound the soldiers sink, sigh and fall to the ground
The sacrifices dance and fill the world with light
Like a fire illuminating the darkest of nights.
